Photographing Children with Special Needs | Lincoln Child Photographer

I have been approached more than once by families of children with special needs to ask if I photograph them – and my answer is a whole-hearted yes!

I have thought a few times about writing this blog post, as this is something very private for many people, but I want to reach out to those families in Lincolnshire and tell them that they don’t have to miss out on photos of their family.

I have proudly worked with LDSSG – Lincolnshire Downs Syndrome Support Group in making their yearly calendar for a number of years now, and am also a volunteer photographer for Butterfly Wishes, a charity photographing children with life limiting illness. In addition, I have also had a number of families come to me with all sorts of special needs.

I want you to know that the session will be catered to you and your child. All my sessions are child-led, and yours will be more so. Before our session, I will be in touch with you to get to know your child and their specific needs – what they like, don’t like, where they feel safe and where they don’t, if they have sensory issues to noise, or if they don’t like the feel of grass.

Your session will take place in a safe place for your family, where you are comfortable, and familiar. And I always include extra time, just in case. And if on that day, little one isn’t having it? Then that’s OK too, because we can always reschedule!

My style of photography is very relaxed and very natural, and I always try and capture emotion and connection over the “perfect” portrait. And this is a style that works amazingly well with children of all needs.

If you would like to discuss your family needs with me, or just want more information, feel free to get in touch – I am always happy to help answer all your questions, and decide on the best type of session for your family.
